Slow Server / Back Office Response
If you’re experiencing an unusual lag in response from your Back Office server, there are a number of things which could be the culprit.
Generally speaking we recommend having all users log out of Back Office, and then perform an orderly reboot of the server. More often than not this will solve the issue at hand but doesn’t really help locate the true problem.
Here are some things to help troubleshoot the root cause:
- Windows Update… This has been a notorious cause for servers and workstations to bog down. Certain versions of Windows have a background process which can dominate processor and memory;
- Runaway Process… Use the Resource Monitor within Windows Task Manager to see if any processes are consuming CPU, RAM, or disk resources;
- Backup… Has a backup been executed during regular hours? Although a SQL Server backup tends to be relatively unobtrusive, a 3rd party or Windows backup process can consume a large amount of resource;
